Who is Miss Rose?

Hello everyone!

I’m Amber and I’m beyond excited to welcome you to Instituto Du’Rose!

I am from Manchester, UK and was raised by a multicultural and multilingual family which ignited my love for language and culture. I am mixed Austrian, Jamaican and British with a French sounding surname! If there were ever exemplars of two distinctly contrasting human beings, Jamaicans and Austrians would be it!

As I reflect on my culturally rich upbringing, I realise that despite the vast differences within my multiracial family, what truly connected them were language and the shared appreciation of each other’s cultural norms, values and traditions. Witnessing my Austrian Nanna Irene interact with my Jamaican and British family members was so awe-inspiring and extremely funny at times, especially concerning the mispronunciation and therefore, misinterpretation of some English words. Nevertheless, mistakes are magic in language learning and one of the biggest teachers!

When did Miss Rose start teaching?

I started my teaching journey 12 years ago in Spain and I now hold the title of an International Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Teacher, recognised by The Association of British Schools Overseas (AoBSO) for my Outstanding Teaching Practice.

Since a very young age, I always desired to be of service and help others. Therefore, with the aim of being able to understand and connect with people on a larger scale, I chose to learn the second most spoken language in the world. Accordingly, I undertook a Joint BA Honours degree in Spanish with Tourism Management and graduated from Leeds Beckett University.

In 2013 I was granted the opportunity to work for The British Council in Spain. I taught English as a Second Language (ESL) to Secondary and A-Level students in schools located in the beautiful cities of Madrid and Logroño. Consequently, this unforgettable and extremely rewarding experience was the real turning point… I instantly felt at home in the classroom and 12 years later, the feeling of utter gratitude and gratification whilst teaching is still as profound as ever!

The experience in Spain further enticed my decision to specialise in teaching Modern Foreign Languages. Thus, shortly after, I graduated with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the prestigious University of Manchester.

Fast-forward 12 years, I have now worked in Primary and Secondary schools worldwide! I have taught English, Spanish and French in schools located in the United Kingdom, Spain and the Middle East. Moreover, I have had the pleasure of privately tutoring adults who have all aspired for the foreign language to support them and help them flourish within their professional settings.

I am SO excited to be on the transformational journey with you!

Thank you in advance!

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose."
